Every era of technology ends with the same question: who controls it?
For the past two decades, the answer didn't seem to matter much. Institutions rented their infrastructure (cloud, software, payment rails) from a handful of vendors, and the arrangement worked because the world was stable enough to trust it. That world is gone. Sanctions have turned payment networks into instruments of policy. Cloud dependence has become a board-level risk. Governments now write "digital sovereignty" into industrial strategy. And AI made the question impossible to ignore: when intelligence itself runs on someone else's model, in someone else's data center, under someone else's jurisdiction, you do not control your own operations. You subscribe to them.
The AI industry has already found its answer. Open-weight models exist because nations and enterprises refused to build their futures on infrastructure they could neither inspect nor run themselves. Whatever you think of any individual model, the direction is clear: serious institutions demand the option to hold the technology in their own hands.
Financial infrastructure is following the same path, for the same reasons and with even less room for compromise. A bank can tolerate a vendor dependency in its CRM. It cannot tolerate one in the system that moves money. For a central bank, the standard is absolute: infrastructure it cannot run, inspect, and modify on its own is infrastructure it cannot adopt. This is obvious to anyone who has sat across the table from a regulated institution, yet crypto spent years asking banks to accept the opposite trade. Transparency they couldn't afford, on networks they couldn't control, from vendors they couldn't leave.
We built Prividium to end that trade. It enables an institution to operate its own environment. Private, under its own control while the correctness of every transaction is verifiable through ZK proofs anchored to Ethereum. Confidentiality without blind trust. Control without isolation. Trust math, not operators.
We took the step that makes the promise structural rather than contractual: we announced that the core of Prividium (including the permissioning engine that governs roles, access controls, and permissions on a Prividium chain) is now open source. Published alongside Prividium's already open-source components, it is designed to run standalone: a permissioned chain using Prividium Core’s public code, in your own environment, with no commercial agreement required. Our tooling and integrations remain commercial, and we intend to be the best in the world at supporting institutions in production. But the core belongs to everyone, because sovereignty that depends on a vendor's goodwill is not sovereignty.
The Deutsche Bundesbank, Germany’s national central bank, is the first institution to deploy the platform this way. Self-hosted, in its own infrastructure. The institutions with the highest standards for independence in the world are the ones this architecture was built for. And because the code is public, any institution can now run and inspect exactly what a central bank is testing.
The lesson of this decade, in AI and in Finance alike, is that infrastructure is policy. The institutions that control their stack will set their own terms, and the institutions that rent it will live by someone else's. After years of sitting across the table from the most demanding institutions in the world, we know exactly which side of that line we are building for.
And I want to be clear about what today is: the foundation, not the finish line. Every institution that stands up its own network makes the next question unavoidable. How do these networks reach each other, and reach public markets, without surrendering the control that made them possible? That is the question we have been building toward the longest and it is the one nobody else is positioned to answer. What we announced today is the ground floor of something much larger.
